Bill has dropped 2 pant sizes and 24 pounds!

Bill's body fat has gone from 35% to 24%. He says, "If I wasn't going to The Perfect Workout, I probably wouldn't keep the weight off."

"I'm not retirement material," says Bill Klein. He's too busy enjoying his work as a partner in an accounting and financial management consulting firm. Which also means he doesn't have time for the typical long workouts at most gyms. He's joined many different ones over the years, including a place that did slow-motion strength training. He stopped going there because it was too far to drive, and it wasn't a one-on-one workout. "They set up the machines and said 'go.' I wasn't getting the personal attention," says Bill. That's especially important because he has osteoarthritis in both hips and knees, manifesting in one hip and one knee. "The Perfect Workout fell into my lap. I really wasn't looking for it," Bill says. He saw an ad for it in mid-2014 and immediately hit it off with the trainers. "I really connected with the people at the Danville studio. That makes a difference to me. And I was impressed with their knowledge of body mechanics."
His first personal trainer Danville, Risa, watched what he was able to do and took note of his limitations. In spite of his knee and hip situation, he was still able to build up his leg muscles without hurting his leg. "That was a process," says Bill. The twice weekly 20-minute workouts improved his general conditioning first, then he noticed his legs getting stronger, especially his quads. Next he worked hard on strengthening his abs, and as he incorporated diet changes, the weight started falling away, too. Bill focused on eating more protein (12-16 grams four times a day) and less carbs, sugar, and alcohol. It paid off. Starting at 222 pounds, he's now down to 198 and hopes to get down to 190 soon. "I have a whole bunch of stuff in my closet that I can wear again. It's a combination of keeping up with the workouts and keeping my metabolism up." Bill gives Risa and his latest trainer a lot of credit. "Dan is flexible and very knowledgeable. He customizes the workout to me and gets to know me. The studio is very convenient, only five minutes from my house, but the one-on-one training is the topper."
When he's not running his consulting business, Bill and his wife enjoy traveling. They love New England and Italy, and hope to go to South America. Alaska is probably the next trip. And as far as his training goes, he just signed on for another year. "That's the underpinning of it all. I know I've got somebody working with me every week keeping me strong. I kind of liken it to peer pressure. I want to see improvement every time. If I wasn't going to The Perfect Workout, I probably wouldn't keep the weight off."

Washington Post says The Perfect Workout's "Slow-motion strength training is hard — and fast."

Thanks to The Washington Post for choosing to spotlight us in an article that helps spread the message about Slow Motion Strength Training and its amazing results associated with this scientifically proven method.

Here are the points from the article:

  • The Slow-motion strength training studios feel less like a gym and more like a physical therapist’s office.
  • These training studios offer clients more of a personal training in a quiet, no-frills space filled with Nautilus equipment
  • It's a complete workout in just two short sessions per week.

Here’s the drill:

  • A high-intensity, low-impact program known as "slow-motion strength training"
  • Gradually lifting and releasing weights without the aid of rest or momentum brings muscles to exhaustion also known as “muscle success”.
  • It is extremely difficult but it’s also only a total of 20 minutes per session.
  • Though The Perfect Workout, a California-based outfit founded in 1999, is new to the East Coast, the Slow-motion strength training concept isn’t.
  • The Perfect Workout system cites principles outlined just over 30 years ago by fitness professional Ken Hutchins.
  • In slowing down movements to safely train women with osteoporosis, Hutchins concluded that the technique builds muscle more effectively than conventional weight training.
  • The effectiveness of slow-motion strength training depends on the individual, according to Lee Jordan, a spokesman for the American Council on Exercise, but it offers a broad range of people a safe and viable program.
  • Like high-intensity interval training, Jordan says, it seeks to remove the top barrier to exercise: time.
  • Unlike high-intensity interval training (“by its very nature, it’s extreme,” Jordan says), slow-motion strength training is accessible to anyone.
  • Practitioners of slow-motion strength training also satisfy their need for cardiovascular activity.
  • The key to an exercise routine is sticking to that routine. And The Perfect Workout's clients say this program works.
  • Clients love to hate slow-motion strength training but they keep coming back because they get results.
  • Slow-motion strength training practitioners often report better body composition plus lower blood sugar and cholesterol.
  • Slow-motion strength training may not be sexiest or most trendiest, but it gets the job done quicker and safer.
  • Many clients of an advanced age love the safety along with the added bone strength that slow-motion strength training offers.
  • Slow-motion training sessions come in several convenient packages. Some packages even help reduce osteoporosis and Type 2 Diabetes.
